Benalmádena's climate and the right slat for your pool
Benalmádena enjoys one of the mildest climates in Europe, with more than 320 days of sunshine a year and gentle Mediterranean temperatures. Even so, the comfortable swimming season really runs from around June to October, when the sea and unheated pools sit above 20 °C. For the rest of the year most private pools go unused — and an automatic cover is what changes that.
PVC slats are the most economical and robust choice, and they suit the majority of villas and townhouses across Arroyo de la Miel, Torremuelle and La Capellanía. They cut down evaporation during the dry Costa del Sol summers, keep leaves, dust and insects out of the water, reduce your use of chemicals and top-up water, and hold in warmth overnight so the pool is ready to use the next morning.
Solar polycarbonate slats go a step further: they capture Benalmádena's abundant sunshine and pass that heat into the water, gently raising its temperature and extending your bathing season into spring and autumn. They are an excellent fit for the sun-exposed hillside plots around Montealto and El Higuerón, where south-facing pools get long hours of direct light.
Transparent polycarbonate slats are the most discreet and elegant option, chosen for design-led homes in Puerto Marina, Reserva del Higuerón and similar developments where the look of the pool matters. Whichever slat you choose, a floating cover also limits accidental access to the water — a real advantage for families and for second homes left unattended for part of the year.
