We make and fit slatted automatic pool covers across the whole of Nerja: the hillside terraces of Capistrano and Punta Lara, the villas at Ladera del Mar, the houses of El Chaparil and the properties out at Maro. Our fitting team works from our own branch in San Pedro de Alcántara.
Nerja is not like the rest of the Costa del Sol, and neither are its pools. Here the land drops towards the sea in terraces: in San Juan de Capistrano, in Punta Lara or at Ladera del Mar the shell sits on retaining walls, with the coping a hand's width from the edge and no clearance down the sides. A shaft above the water has to fit the width that exists, not the width we would like.
Nerja also has a long-established pool stock. El Capistrano Village is one of the pioneering developments on this coast, and shells from that era come in irregular sizes that rarely match a catalogue. Every cover is made to measure in AISI 316L stainless steel, built to the NF P90-308 standard, and we measure it ourselves before a single piece is cut.
More than a third of Nerja's registered population is foreign, with the British community the largest, so a great many houses stand empty for months. That shapes how we work: we fit the measuring visit and the installation around the weeks you are here, and we deal with you in English from the first email to the handover. We have made nothing but automatic slatted covers since 2005, more than 5,000 of them, all in our own factory in Torrijos, Toledo.
A manufacturer, not a middleman. We design, make and fit the cover ourselves. You talk to the people who build it: no commission-only salespeople, no subcontractors, no mark-up for passing the job along. Ask about a section or a weight and you are asking the workshop.
A branch on the coast, not only a factory inland. We manufacture in Torrijos, in Toledo, but whoever measures, fits and comes back to Nerja sets off from San Pedro de Alcántara, in Marbella: some 125 km along the A-7, about an hour and twenty minutes. A fault in Burriana is seen that same week, not whenever a van next comes down from inland.
Safety built to NF P90-308. Closed, a slatted cover is a physical barrier resting on the coping, not a sheet lying on the water, and it keeps children, visiting grandchildren and pets off the surface. Ours are built to NF P90-308, the French anti-drowning standard.
We cover the whole municipality, from the old town beside the Balcón de Europa to the hillside urbanisations and out to Maro along the old N-340, and on to Frigiliana and Torrox by the MA-5105 with the same van and the same fitters.
Town centre and beaches: Balcón de Europa, El Chaparil, Burriana, La Torrecilla. Capistrano: El Capistrano Village, San Juan de Capistrano, Capistrano Playa, El Oasis de Capistrano. Hillside urbanisations and Maro: Punta Lara, Ladera del Mar, Urbanización Almijara, Maro. Neighbouring municipalities: Frigiliana, Torrox, Cómpeta, Almuñécar.
An honest word about the 29780: in Nerja, access often matters as much as the pool. Slats and shaft arrive in long pieces, and a lorry does not fit into the lanes of the old town or up some of the ramps in Capistrano. So before confirming anything we check where the material can be unloaded and how it reaches the pool, and in a gated urbanisation we clear access and hours with the administrator. If the only way up is by hand, we say so in advance.
Nerja hangs over the water: the cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo and the coves at Burriana leave a salt-laden breeze over these pools most of the year, and salt is unforgiving with cheap fixings and ordinary profiles. Our whole structure, the shafts and every fitting are AISI 316L stainless steel, the grade used in marine environments, and we do not change material by postcode. Upkeep here is rinsing the surface with fresh water now and then, especially after days of levante.
The sun asks the same of the slat. Nerja sees around 320 clear days a year, and the radiation falls straight onto the south-facing terraces of Punta Lara and El Oasis de Capistrano. A badly chosen slat fades and turns brittle in a few summers, so we use profiles stabilised against ultraviolet light and study the orientation of your pool before recommending a finish.
The Sierra de Tejeda y Almijara shields the town from the north, so Nerja gets less rain and less cold wind than Málaga or the Marbella coast, and the water stays mild for more weeks. The trade-off is what comes off the mountain: fine dust, leaves from the subtropical vegetation of the Axarquía and material washed down from around the Río Chíllar, which land in the pool when the wind turns inland. Closed, the cover keeps it all on top and the bottom stays clean, which counts when the house is shut from October to Easter.
So the slat is not a matter of taste. PVC, in white, grey, blue or sand, suits the town houses and the sheltered pools. Solar polycarbonate uses those clear days to gain temperature, up to 8 °C with nothing running and nothing to pay, and it is what stretches the season in the hillside villas. The transparent version is for pools where the sea view is the point.
Almost everything we fit on this coast is photographed once finished, with the owner's permission: shafts above the water on the coping in existing pools, submerged shafts in new builds, PVC slats in the four colours, and solar or transparent polycarbonate.
Worth a look before deciding: the same pool reads very differently with a slat box at one end and with the shaft hidden below the water line.
The sun is generous in Nerja, but the water in an uncovered pool cools overnight here just as anywhere, which is why owners who want a longer season end up looking at a heat pump.
One figure is worth knowing first. Evaporation is the largest route of heat loss in a pool, and an automatic slatted cover cuts it by 70 to 80 per cent; heating consumption falls by 50 to 60 per cent with the cover in place. Without one, the heat pump spends the night replacing what the air takes off the surface.
The combination that works best here is a solar polycarbonate cover, which adds up to 8 °C during the day with no energy at all, and a heat pump sized afterwards, once the losses are under control.
We manufacture in our own workshop in Torrijos, in Toledo, with structure and fittings in AISI 316L stainless steel, and install with our own team: one point of contact from specification to handover.
The important thing is to decide the cover at project stage. A submerged shaft has to be allowed for inside the shell before the concrete is poured; when the cover appears at the end of the works, the honest answer is usually a visible shaft instead.
If the project is in Nerja and you bring the client, you stay the point of contact. We can supply slat sections, weights and a comparison document for the specification.

We manufacture in our own workshop in Torrijos (Toledo), with the structure and all fittings in 316L stainless steel, and we carry out the installation ourselves. For a practice, a main contractor or a developer, the decision that really matters is taken at design stage: a recess for the submerged shaft has to be allowed for in the pool shell before any concrete is poured, whereas an automatic slatted cover brought in at the end of the build is normally resolved with a visible shaft resting on the coping. If the project is in Nerja and the client is yours, the relationship stays with you.
