Motorised PVC slatted cover rolling across a private villa pool in Alhaurín el Grande

Automatic pool covers in Alhaurín el Grande

We fit motorised slatted covers on the fincas of La Chichara, El Parral and Villa del Guadalhorce, on the villas of Alhaurín Golf and in the old town beside the Fuente Lucena. Every cover is made to measure in our own factory in Torrijos and fitted by our own team out of San Pedro de Alcántara, 45 km away.

Automatic pool covers, made and fitted for Alhaurín el Grande homes

Alhaurín el Grande is not a coastal town, and its pools are not coastal pools. Most sit on large plots at 264 metres above sea level, with orange and olive trees up to the coping and the Sierra de Mijas closing off the south. That means leaves, earth carried in on the terral wind, and very hard limestone water off the aquifer that feeds the twelve spouts of the Fuente Lucena.

A motorised slatted cover deals with all three at once: it closes the pool in about twenty seconds, cuts evaporation in a town where the summer bites harder than on the coast, and spares you starting every morning with a leaf net. For an owner who is not here all year, that last point changes most.

Every cover we build is motorised at 230 V and built to the French standard NF P90-308; there is no hand-cranked version in our range, and everything structural is AISI 316L stainless steel. We make automatic slatted covers in PVC or polycarbonate and nothing else: no winter tarpaulins, bubble blankets, domes, telescopic enclosures, awnings, pergolas or walk-on covers.

Why choose Ingerclima

The manufacturer, not a middleman. We design, build and fit the cover ourselves in our own workshop in Torrijos, Toledo, where we have been making covers since 2005: more than 5,000 of them, all made in Spain. This page and our enquiry form are in English, so you are not deciding a technical question in a second language.

A branch 45 km away, not in Toledo. Our Costa del Sol branch is in San Pedro de Alcántara: about 45 kilometres and three quarters of an hour by the A-355 through Ojén and Monda to Coín and then the A-404. For a survey, a limit-switch adjustment or a breakdown our own people drive up, which matters when the call comes and you are not in the country.

Safety built to NF P90-308. Closed, a slatted cover is a physical barrier across the whole water surface, which is what grandparents are really asking about. Ours are built to NF P90-308, the French safety standard for slatted pool covers. It does not replace an adult watching the water, and we will never tell you it does.

Where we work around Alhaurín el Grande

We cover the old town and the whole of the scattered 29120, from the Fahala valley up to the ridges climbing towards the Puerto de los Pescadores: the old town and Fuente Lucena, Villa del Guadalhorce, Alhaurín Golf and Buenavista, and out on the land the fincas of La Chichara, El Parral, El Zángano and La Paca. We also work in Coín, Alhaurín de la Torre, Cártama and Mijas.

One honest warning about fitting day. A great many plots here are reached by dirt tracks with dry-stone walls and tight bends, and the shaft travels in one piece, so it cannot be joined up on site. If your plot sits behind a gate, or the access is shared, tell us when you ring and we will arrange the permissions in advance.

If your pool is already built, we fit the shaft above the water and do not break into the shell. We are happy to deal with your property manager or keyholder if you will not be in Spain that week.

Alhaurín el Grande's climate and the right slat for your pool

At 264 metres on the northern slope of the Sierra de Mijas, the weather is not the weather in Fuengirola. August days are drier and harder, and the nights fall several degrees because the sea lies behind the mountain. Without a cover the pool gains heat by day and loses it by night; the slats cut that swing.

The water comes off a sierra of limestone and marble and it is genuinely hard: as it dries it leaves a white ring of lime on the slats and the shaft supports. That is why everything structural we make is AISI 316L stainless steel. Alhaurín does not face the sea, but the poniente carries salt in suspension over the Puerto de los Pescadores as far as the fincas.

Dust off the terral, orange blossom and olive leaves all end in the water; with the cover closed, the filter and the chlorine do half the work. Hose the slats with clean water before leaving the cover retracted for days, check the limit switch before summer, and watch for dry olive leaves in October.

Which slat? PVC, in white, grey, blue or sand, is the long-proven choice for a finca pool used from May to October. Solar polycarbonate suits fresh nights: it lets light through and can lift the water by up to 8 degrees with no energy at all. Transparent polycarbonate is the aesthetic choice. Compare them on our slats page.

Recent installations on the Costa del Sol

The covers in these photographs were made and fitted by us on the Costa del Sol and in the Guadalhorce valley. You will recognise the type of pool: a rectangle on a large plot, the shaft above the water on the coping, slats in grey or sand so they disappear against the stone.

If you would rather see the mechanism than the pictures, say so when you ring: on a survey around Alhaurín el Grande we can usually arrange for you to watch a cover working nearby.

Heating an Alhaurín el Grande pool: settle the cover first

Alhaurín el Grande is a short drive from the coast but it is not the coast. The nights drop further here, and that changes both the water temperature at breakfast and the performance of any heating equipment.

An air-source heat pump takes its heat out of the air, so it performs worse the colder that air is, which is precisely at dawn, when the pool is losing most heat. Covering the water surface breaks that circle: an automatic slatted cover reduces evaporation by 70 to 80 per cent and the consumption of the equipment by 50 to 60 per cent.

The sensible order is to settle the cover first and size the equipment afterwards. To stretch the season without a heat pump at all, solar polycarbonate slats are the first thing to look at.

Architects, contractors and developers in Alhaurín el Grande

We manufacture in our own workshop in Torrijos, Toledo, with structure and fittings in AISI 316L stainless steel. For an architect, builder or developer the point is to settle the cover at project stage: a submerged shaft has to be allowed for in the shell before the concrete is poured; a cover that arrives at the end of the job is normally resolved with a visible shaft.

If the project is in Alhaurín el Grande and the client is yours, the relationship stays with you. We quote to you, we fit to your programme and we do not go around you. You can read how we work with professionals.

Worth flagging for anyone building in the 29120: plan the power run at the same time as the cover. On scattered plots the supply is often a long way from the pool, and an unforeseen 230 V line is the most common reason a fitting date slips.

Architects, contractors and developers in Alhaurín el Grande

We manufacture in our own workshop in Torrijos (Toledo), with the structure and all fittings in 316L stainless steel, and we carry out the installation ourselves. For a practice, a main contractor or a developer, the decision that really matters is taken at design stage: a recess for the submerged shaft has to be allowed for in the pool shell before any concrete is poured, whereas an automatic slatted cover brought in at the end of the build is normally resolved with a visible shaft resting on the coping. If the project is in Alhaurín el Grande and the client is yours, the relationship stays with you.
