Which pool cover suits Fuengirola's climate?
Fuengirola enjoys one of the sunniest microclimates in Europe, with more than 320 days of sunshine a year and a gentle Mediterranean pattern: mild, occasionally wet winters of around 11-18°C and hot, dry summers where highs sit near 29-30°C. Sea temperatures peak at roughly 24°C in August, so the natural swimming season runs comfortably from May to September.
What shortens that season is rarely the daytime heat but the cooler spring and autumn evenings, the coastal breezes that sweep in off the bay, and the fine Saharan dust and leaf litter that settle on an open pool. An automatic cover tackles all three at once: closed overnight it holds in warmth, cuts water evaporation and keeps the surface clean, letting you open the season earlier in spring and stretch it well into the autumn.
For most Fuengirola gardens we recommend the solar polycarbonate slat, which uses the abundant Costa del Sol sunshine to warm the water by several degrees and is the best choice for genuinely extending your bathing season. The PVC slat is the robust, economical option for owners who mainly want protection, cleanliness and lower upkeep, while the transparent polycarbonate slat offers the most discreet, high-end finish for the designer villas of Torreblanca del Sol and El Higuerón.
The cover also earns its keep in winter and whenever a second home stands empty. Closed over the pool it keeps out rain-borne dirt, pine needles and dust, so the water stays clear and maintenance drops sharply — a real advantage for the many British, Scandinavian and Belgian owners who are only in Fuengirola part of the year.
